Wildcard Workout-Run The Edge

News

From Coach Toby……

New route! Please join me Tuesday for an out-and-back run to Edgehill Mountain, one of San Francisco’s less known and I think most magical places.

A hill workout in disguise, we’ll enjoy a gradual two mile climb from Golden Gate Park to Edgehill Mountain Open Space Preserve, with an added option to loop the summit when you arrive. The additional 100 feet of climbing is worth the view.

Focus on effort and not speed for this workout. Note, a small trail segment is included.

Feeling inspired? Add 1-2 Edgehill Mountain summits and practice a short surge at the top

Directions:

  • Start and finish at 7th Ave and MLK Jr Drive (Golden Gate Park)
  • Run south on 7th Ave, exiting the park at Lincoln Way
  • 7th Ave turns into Laguna Honda Blvd after stop light intersection with Clarendon Ave.
  • Continue along Laguna Honda Blvd
  • Laguna Honda Blvd will curve to the right and then turn into Dewey Blvd
  • Continue one block on Dewe Blvd to Pacheco Ave
  • Turn left onto Pacheco Ave
  • One run block then turn right onto Merced Ave
  • Look for pathway, turn right onto pathway
  • Cross Vasquez Ave, continue along pathway
  • Cross street, take pathway steps (just a few) to the road and turn right onto Garcia Ave
    Veer left onto Edgehill Way
  • The road will curve to the left, then straighten out. Continue straight at this juncture (do not turn left)
  • At the end of the road look for the dirt trail and enter Edgehill Mtn Open Space Preserve
  • Continue to the end of the dirt trail. This is our turnaround.

Option 1: At the turnaround, retrace your steps back to the start.

Option 2: After exiting the dirt trail on your return, take first right onto Edgehill Way. After 1/10 mile veer left to do a clockwise loop around Edgehill Mtn one or two times. After you are done, return to Edgehill Way, turn right and retrace your steps back to the start.
