Trail 101 (3ish miles or 6ish miles)!

For those BRAND NEW to the trail, we’d recommend tackling the ‘short’ course which includes a quality ‘taste’ of the trail, one solid climb, and a few amazing views (including Immigrant Point Overlook). Roundtrip, the short route is just under 4 miles

For those who are a bit more experienced, we’d recommend the ‘long’ course which includes lots of trail, a few epic views, no shortage of ascent/descent (just under 800 feet) , and more! The long course is just under 7 miles.

And, below is a course description for you…..

  • Launch from Sports Basement and turn LEFT on Old Mason Street
  • Follow Old Mason Street to Crissy Field Avenue and turn LEFT/UPHILL (.48 miles)
  • Crissy Field Avenue turns into McDowell. Continue running uphill on McDowell to Lincoln.
  • At McDowell/Lincoln, segue onto Park Trail and continue running uphill (.78 miles)
  • At Amatury Loop, turn RIGHT and cross the pedestrian crosswalk towards Bay Area Ridge Trail (1.26 miles).
  • Connect with Bay Area Ridge Trail and follow to the parking lot of Rob Hill campground. Run through the parking lot and turn LEFT onto the trail running parallel to Washington (1.8 miles)
  • Continue to Immigrant Point Overlook and take in the EPIC VIEW (1.9 miles)! If you’re tackling the SHORT COURSE, turn around here and head back the way you came to Sports Basement!

If you’re tackling the LONG course, here’s the remainder of the route.

  • Continue running on Anza Trail past Immigrant Point Overlook. At the intersection of Washington/Battery Caufield, turn LEFT onto the right shoulder of Washington (2.13 miles)
  • Follow the trail on Washington back to Park trail. Take a left onto Park Trail (2.5 miles) followed by a quick RIGHT onto Bay Area Ridge Trail (2.54 miles)
  • Follow Bay Area Ridge Trail to Nauman & reconnect with Washington (2.93 miles).
  • Run on the shoulder of Washington briefly before crossing the pedestrian crosswalk onto Bay Area Ridge Trail (3.02 miles)
  • Follow Bay Area Ridge Trail to Arguello (3.41 miles). FYI, the Presidio Golf Course is located here if you need to use the restroom and/or grab water! Cross Arguello and take a quick RIGHT onto Mountain Lake Trail.
  • Follow Mountain Lake Trail for just over 1/2 a mile and turn LEFT (3.98 miles). Take another quick LEFT shortly thereafter (4.04 miles)
  • Follow the trail past the soccer/lacrosse fields on your RIGHT. Shortly after passing the fields, turn RIGHT/DOWNHILL towards El Polin Loop (4.32 miles).
  • Follow the trail switchbacks downhill until you see a set of stairs on your LEFT. Ascend the stairs (4.6 miles). Turn RIGHT onto Ecology Trail shortly after ascending the stairs (4.68 miles)
  • When Ecology Trail runs into the end of Barnard Ave, veer LEFT/uphill to reconnect with Ecology Trail (4.93 miles)
  • Follow Ecology Trail to the parking lot behind Inn at the Presidio (5.06 miles). Connect with Moraga and turn LEFT (5.1 miles)
  • Follow Moraga Trail to Infantry Terrace (5.35 miles). Take a quick LEFT to access Ghost Trail (5.37 miles)
  • Follow Ghost Trail past the National Cemetary Overlook and turn RIGHT onto Park Trail (5.68 miles)
  • Follow Park Trail to the intersection of Lincoln/McDowell and continue downhill on McDowell (6.05 miles)
  • Turn RIGHT on Mason Street (6.37 miles) and head back to Sports Basement for 6.86 miles!
