Tuesday 12/30 Wildcard Workout Week 7 – Last Wildcard of 2025 (Mixed Grades 4M)

News

Happy holidays! Last run of the year, let’s get one more in before the rain returns.

Mixing up terrain is one of the best ways to build strength, confidence, and race-day readiness, especially around here. This week’s wildcard brings together flats, climbs, stairs, and a long downhill reward, all wrapped into one classic SF route. (That’s what we mean by “mixed grades”: a blend of flat, uphill, and downhill, in one run.)

Why mixed grades?

Because Bay Area races aren’t flat, SF hills are no joke, and weather + terrain always keep things interesting. Runs like this build a durable core and legs, and a flexible mindset – whether you’re eyeing a winter/spring race, trail miles, or just stronger city running.

Workout

About 1.5 miles of “mild to wild” gradients from an easy 2% up to a spicy ~30% stair climb, followed by a mile+ of downhill to let gravity do some work.

Meetup

7th Ave & MLK Jr. Drive, Golden Gate Park (our regular spot)

Tips

Newer runners

• Start easy on the flats in the park and ease into the climb

• Short walk breaks on the uphill are encouraged

• Run, walk, or hike. Every step counts—this is how strength and endurance get built

Experienced runners

• Pace smart early, save energy for the climb

• Shorter strides, strong core, efficient form uphill

• Treat it like race prep: know the route, run with intention

Last post run hang of the year!
