From Coach Matt….
Most people in my experience sell themselves short. Most people can run farther and/or faster than they ‘think’ they can. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard something like, ‘I can NEVER run faster than 2:00 for a half marathon.’
When I hear things like this, I often respond with, ‘How do you know? Have you ever tried?’.
How was the 4:00 minute barrier for the mile broken? Roger Bannister (and many others) simply tried (again and again and again).
How was the 2:00 hour barrier for the marathon broken? Eliud Kipchoge (and many others) simply tried (again and again and again).
So, for speedwork on Thursday, I want you to show up and ‘simply try’ to run a mile or two miles faster than you think you can 😉
I’d encourage you to NOT bring/use a watch and simply run according to ‘feel’. I’ve helped more than a few runners over the years ‘break on through to the other side’ by simply ‘flying blind’ for a mile (or two). Not having a watch to look at while running can be liberating.
Simply ‘listening’ to the messages your body sends you and using your body’s ‘natural’ governor can take you to places you might not think possible. So, just show up and try on Thursday. You might surprise yourself! 🙂
