Whether you’re tackling the short (4ish miles) or long (9ish miles) route, you’re spending some quality time running along the coast! Why spend time running (or doing anything) near the water?
Because there are a LITANY of health benefits associated with spending time near the ocean! Sea air is good for sleep because it’s generally cleaner and fresher, with higher levels of oxygen. Spending quality time near the ocean can help ward off depression and anxiety. Simply ‘looking’ at the ocean has been proven to have a calming effect!
Here’s a link to the course map for our ocean embracing adventure run….
This route is pretty straightforward to navigate.
- Head SOUTH from the Beach Chalet along the paved path. Once you reach Lincoln (where the Great Highway is closed off to cars), segue onto the roadbed.
- Follow the Great Highway to the end at Great Highway @ Sloat. Turn around and head back to the Beach Chalet for (nearly) 5 miles! If you’re tackling the short option, you’re wrapped!
- If you’re tackling the LONG course (9ish miles), cross the street and follow the paved path/sidewalk on the ‘ocean’ side of the Great Highway up towards the (former) Cliff House.
- Run past the Cliff House and connect with Land’s End Trail on the LEFT (5.54 miles)
- Continue running on Land’s End Trail/Coastal Trail all the way to Camino Del Mar (7.04 miles). Turn around and head back the way you came for 9.38 miles!
