Wildcard Workout ~ Sunset District Hills + Stairs Workout (3M)

News

From Coach Toby…..

San Francisco’s greatest gift to runners? Hills of course!

Cardio and strength combined, this week’s wildcard is accessible to runners of all levels and includes one of Run Club’s favorite spots to watch an ocean sunset – Sunset District’s Grandview Park.

You’ll have a choice of 2-4 hill repeats. We’ll chat briefly about the benefits of hill and stair workouts and how to approach the run before we head out.

Looking forward to our time together. See you Tuesday!

Directions:

We will do a 1/2m warm-up run to the start at 8th Ave and Lawton St. Here’s where the fun starts and the work begins!

Alternating streets, we’ll run up and down each block, on our way to Grandview Park.

  • Run up 8th Ave one block
  • At top, turn right onto Moraga St, then right onto Auto Drive. Descend back down one block to Lawton St
  • Turn left at Lawton St, run one block west to 9th Ave, turn left and run back up to Moraga St.
  • Continue this sequence of alternating climbs and descents until you arrive at Moraga St and Funston Ave
  • Turn right onto Moraga St
  • Go up the steps (left or right side you choose), cross 14th Ave, and continue up steps to the top of Grandview Park.
  • Stop for a quick view (photos with teammates encouraged!) and then descend down steps on the other side of park, to Noriega St.
  • Turn left onto Noriega St
  • Noriega St turns into 14th Ave
  • Continue on 14th Ave 2/10 of a mile
  • Turn left and climb up Aerial Way Steps
  • At top of steps turn right, then quick left back onto Aerial Way
  • Descend Aerial Way to Pacheco St
  • Cross Pacheco St and continue down Aerial Way (2nd set of steps)
  • At bottom of steps turn right onto Ortega St
  • Run down Ortega St
  • Left onto 8th Ave
  • Right on Lincoln
  • Run one block to 7th Ave
  • Turn left crossing Lincoln at light return into the park
  • Finish at 7th Ave and MLK Jr Dr
  • Nice work!
