How did you become interested in the sport of running?
I enjoyed running in middle school but didn’t run again until my mid 30s. Basically, I got sick of doing cardio on the elliptical and wanted to try something different.
What neighborhood in SF or city do you live?
Inner Sunset.
What is your real life job?
I work in Database Marketing. I basically target clients and send them emails.
What is your favorite race distance and run type (road/trail) and why?
10K road. Not too short, not too long but just right! And I can still enjoy the rest of the day without being too sore. My last race was the New Orleans Rock n Roll 10K right before the pandemic lockdowns and it was lots of fun. I had planned on doing the Half but downgraded and am glad I did.
What race, if any, are you training for?
I decided to commit to training for a race this season but I’m not sure which one yet!
What is your favorite part about Run Club?
I first joined the running club formerly known as Marathon Matt back in 2011. I took a hiatus around 2017 and returned last season. I came back because I find the coaches and the group runs to be super motivating and fun. Even though I’m slower and at the back of the pack I don’t feel left out. I’ve also made some good friends over the years!
Besides running, do you have any other hobbies?
I love to go out dancing to Eighties music. I also enjoy spending time with my maltipoo, Chia.
Is there anything that you’d like Run Club participants to know about you that wasn’t asked above?
I tried doing Speed Work for the first time last season. I found it to be very useful and credit it with helping me run faster after getting super slow/out of shape during the Covid lockdown.
What is your favorite adult beverage and why is it your favorite?
A Moscow Mule. Though I guess I should call it a Kyiv Mule now? I love ginger beer and I think it pairs well with vodka. I also like that it comes in its own special copper cup.
